La carriera dei Thanatos inizia nel 1984 e dopo vari demo pubblicano 'Emerging from the netherworld' nel 1989. Quest'ultimo è l'anno di inizio dell'esplosione del Death Metal, ma gli olandesi, pur essendo estremi, non si legano a quest'ultimo genere dallo stile tombale preferendo sonorità dal dna slayerano di bands come Sadus, Merciless, Massacra, Burnt Offering, Aggressor ecc. Comunque nella loro ristretta discografia, causata anche da alcuni anni di inattività, troviamo un album che possiamo ben citare in questo blog: 'Angelic encounters' non scrive la storia del DM ma si fa apprezzare per una serie di brani altamente tosti e ben eseguiti, la preparazione tecnica è evidente in quanto i musicisti sono coinvolti in band di assoluta notorietà.
