Paradise Lost - Shades of god (1992)

La crescita dei Paradise Lost passa anche per questo 'Shades of god'. A mio avviso è un degli album più trascurati della band inglese che in questa pubblicazione rallenta il ritmo a favore di un Doom Metal colto nella struttura dei brani e decadente nello spirito. Tanti i brani da menzionare, tra cui 'As i die' che  è un dei simboli della band.

Dismember - Like an ever flowing stream.1991

Tra i primi a formarsi insieme a Nihilst, Grave, Treblinka, debuttarono solo nel' 91 con questo splendido album. 'Like an ever..' è un pilastro della storia del Death Metal svedese: diretto, sincero, ruvido. Tracce Heavy Metal nel rifferama dei brani influenzerà anche il Melodic Death degli anni a venire.

Necrophobic - The call-Ep.1993

Ben apprezzati per il loro Black Death, hanno esordito nel '92 con questo 'The call'. Il contenuto dell'ep è un Death Metal cadenzato ed epico di buon gradimento.

Ataraxy - Curse of the requiem mass-Ep 2010

Death Metal intrigato di gore dai ritmi non veloci. Le band di riferimento sono Morgoth e Bolt Thrower  ma nei brani più lenti la musica degli Ataraxy ricorda gli Asphyx e i Viogression.

Hooded Menace - Never cross the dead.2010

'Never cross the dead' ricorda tanto il  periodo dei primi anni '90 del genere Death Doom Metal. In quest'album le parti doom sono più presenti di quelle death, ma siamo di fronte ad un'opera d'arte musicale. Lavoro molto intenso, ispiratissimo e decadente.

Sinister - Aggressive measures.1998

Fin dagli esordi lo stile dei Sinister, che è un Death Metal assai influenzato dal Brutal Death e non si è mai ammorbidito. Proponendo album simili a un rullo compressore, la loro carriera si è sempre mantenuta su discreti livelli. Personalmente 'Aggressive measures' è l'album che più li rappresenta, nulla togliendo a 'Cross the styx' del '92 che è considerato da molti il migliore. Ottima la preparazione tecnica dei musicisti.

Terzo album di Death Doom Metal per questi finlandesi, vocals growls ed atmosfera decisamente invernale.

Morgoth - Odium.1993

Dal periodo 92/93 la ricerca di nuove soluzioni coinvolge anche i Morgoth e degnamente pubblicano questo 'Odium'. Il pesante Death Metal del combo tedesco qui è infetto da suoni Cyber Industrial formando insieme a 'Soul of a new machine' dei Fear Factory e 'Fear emptiness despair' dei Napalm Death una triade di album fondamentali per capire il Post Death Metal.

Sentenced - Shadows of the past.1991

I Sentenced si sono evoluti molto durante la loro carriera, attraversando dei generi quali il Death Metal, il Melodic Death e il Gothic Metal, proponendo dei dischi importanti. Questo 'Shadows..' si candida come uno dei migliori album Old Style della scena europea di sempre. Lo stile è quello della culla madre Entombed, brani veloci si alternano con altri cadenzati, la buona produzione ai Tico-Tico Studio (Finlandia) esalta il crushing sound rendendo l'atmosfera dell'album veramente sinistra. Giustizia è fatta!!!

Onesti macinatori di Death Metal, 'War zone' può essere descritto come una versione più veloce dei Six Feet Under.

Obscenity - The 3rd chapter.1996

Fedeli al loro credo, gli Obscenity, nella loro ventennale carriera, non si sono spostati tanto dal loro Death Metal veloce ed estremo. Questo 'The 3rd chapter' è un album molto tosto che si interseca tra la vecchia scuola europea e quella americana di Monstrosity ed Immolation. Personalmente il migliore della loro carriera.

Hanging Garden - Inherit the eden.2007

Gli Hanging Garden di 'Inherit the eden' suonano un Doom Metal con voce growls, l'andatura cadenzata e piena di pathos ricorda i Dawn Of Solace.

Ottimo debut per questa band svedese, il riferimento sono i primi Celestial Season, My Dying Bride e Theatre Of Tragedy. Colpisce il brano 'Silent winter'.

God Dethroned - The christhunt.1992

Gli olandesi God Dethroned sono partiti come Death Metal per poi alleggerire il loro sound già dal successivo 'The grand grimoire', spostandosi verso sonorità Black-Death-Melodic. Questo 'The christhunt' è un Old Style Death Metal degno di attenzione che va riesumato.

Il muro di suono di quest'album è impressionante, siamo in territori Bolt Thrower ma nei momenti veloci affiorano anche influenze tipo Monstrosity / Immolation.

Megaslaughter - Calls from the beyond.Ep 1991

Band nota dell'underground svedese di fine anni '80. Si formano nel 1987 e dopo il demo 'Death remains' del '90 pubblicano questo interessante debut. La produzione non è granché ma il loro Old Style è efficace.

Entombed - Left hand path.1989

Band simbolo della scena svedese, 'Left and path' è l'inizio di un nuovo modo di suonare Death Metal grazie ai suoni fragorosi (con accordature basse che sarà definito crushing svedese) degli emergenti Sunlight Studio.

Mitologico chaos assordante. Capolavoro.

Napalm Death - Harmony corruption.1990

Album della svolta per i ND dopo due atti di seminale Grind Core. La band di Birmingham pubblica una mazzata di pesante Death Metal con accelerazioni Grind, entrano in formazione Jesse Pintado, Mitch Harris e Mark Barney che poco prima aveva cantato in 'Subconcious terror' dei Benediction. Registrato ai Morrisound Studio di Tampa dal produttore Scott Burns.

Si formano a Varese nel 1989 e dopo alcuni demo e ep pubblicano questo debut nel 2001. Il loro è un Old Style Death Metal in pieno riferimento Dismember. L'album è compatto, adrenalinico e indirizzato a quei suoni crushing del periodo d'oro del DM svedese. Registrato ai Sunlight Studio di Stoccolma.

Novembers Doom - The novella reservoir.2007

Ottima band americana di Death Doom, tra le poche conosciute di questa nazione. 'The novella reservoir' è un album ben curato in tutto: layout, sound, registrazione, preparazione tecnica e sopratutto i brani che sono veramente belli. Artwork di Travis Smith. Tra le migliori uscite del 2007.

Septicflesh - Sumerian daemons.2003

Tra i più noti gruppi greci, i Septicflesh si sono sempre distinti per la capacità di suonare del convincente Death Progressivo. Dopo una serie di buoni album pubblicano nel 2003 questo capolavoro. L'alchimia creata con Death Metal, cori sinfonici e visioni epiche fanno di questo 'Sumerian daemons' l'apice della loro carriera.

Celestial Season - Forever scarlet passion.1993

Durante i 5 album pubblicati i Celestial Season hanno progredito di parecchio il loro stile fino ad arrivare allo Stoner-Space. Questo debut 'Forever..' è una gemma di Death-Doom-Gothic con atmosfere decadenti, voci femminili e violini. Album da avere.

Protector - Golem.1988

I Protector si formano nel 1986 e fino ad ora pubblicano 4 album e una infinità di cose tipo demo, split e raccolte. Forse a causa di instabilità di line-up sono sempre stati ai margini della scena che conta. Questo 'Golem' è degno di nota perché è uno dei primi album DM infarcito di Grind Core.

Facebreaker - Dead, rotten and hungry.2008

I Facebreaker propongono un DM in stile Grave. Niente di nuovo per ciò che il genere ha già offerto, ma la buona registrazione ed i brani diretti rendono quest'album godibile.
